- Ticks
- ?
Ticks are parasites that feed on animal and human blood. They are small, dark coloured and have a round flatish body with a long mouth. They need blood to grow and can often be found in grass, vegetation and on animals including pets. They crawl along grass or branches and drop onto their host and attach themselves to soft skin to feed. They inject a substance to stop the blood from clotting and their bites can cause an allergic reaction; their saliva can also be poisonous. Ticks can pass on several illnesses to humans and people can develop tick paralysis. Redness and swelling will appear around the tick bite and this will disappear once the tick is removed.
