Brushtail and Ringtail possums are protected animals in Sydney and are the most common possums we encounter living in people’s roof voids, chimneys, and sheds.

They are nocturnal and normally not seen during the day. Ringtail possums have dark bushy tails and ringtails have a white tip on the curly end of their tails. If you think you may have a possum living at your home, it’s best not to try and catch it yourself, call in the experts who are licensed to capture and release possums safely.

Possums are very cute to look at but not that cute when they are living on your roof, staining the ceiling, making a mess, and keeping you up at night.

Our possum removal service involves a full inspection of the area/s where you believe a possum may be residing – usually the roof void, but they can sometimes hide in a chimney or shed. When we carry out our inspection of the affected area, sometimes we can visually sight the possum and sometimes we can just see the droppings they have left. We are also inspecting for any potential entry points to the area that may need to be proofed to stop any further possums from entering the area.

Once we have confirmed that a possum may be the cause of the noises you are hearing, we will set a possum cage with an apple and leave it overnight to catch the possum. Once the possum enters the cage and the door closes, you may hear the door closing. If we are able to locate the entry point where the possum has come in, we can proof this area so no further possums can enter. We then come and take out the cage and release the possum safely.

Possums are a protected species and it is necessary to have a license to capture and release them safely.

Additional Information

Our possum removal service usually takes about 1 hour however if there are multiple entry points to proof, the service can take longer.

Our inspector will provide a quotation for proofing any accessible entry points to the roof. Proofing is an additional cost to the capture and release.

Additional possums and more than 2 visits will incur an additional charge. If we are unable to access an area safely to proof the entry point, we will recommend you contact a roofing expert to address this issue.

We will require access to the area where the possum is residing. If it is in the roof void, we will need access to your ceiling manhole to set the cage.

It is important that you advise us if your home is more than one story high as we may need to bring a long ladder with us. If the possum is not within the structure and is residing outside, unfortunately, we are unable to capture possums outside. Sometimes we will recommend you purchase or make a possum box and safely secure it to a tree in your backyard to give the possum somewhere safe to live rather than in your home.

Wet weather generally does not have much impact on us setting a cage within roof voids or sheds. If it is necessary to go up to the external areas of the roof, we will not be able to complete this part of the service until the roof is dry due to safety issues.

This service is only for possums, all other pests are excluded from this service.

Payment is required on the day of service – we accept cash, EFTPOS, Visa and MasterCard and cheque.

We provide a 12 month warranty on our installed proofing work. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that other possums will not enter the area by making other entry points.

What to expect after your service?

It will be quiet in your home and you will be able to sleep! If noises continue, please contact our office as there may be other possums that evaded the cage when their mate was caught. Additional possums captured and released, do incur an additional charge.
