Spiders are arachnids and are useful because they eat insects around your home however not everyone loves them! Some species of spiders, such as the Sydney funnel web, are very dangerous and can deliver a fatal bite.  All spiders have 8 legs and either live in webs above the ground or in burrows under the ground. Some have hairy legs that enable them to climb walls and some can move quickly along the ground and jump. Most spiders will bite when they feel threatened and their bites can are painful and often venomous.

We offer two types of spider treatment. Our General Pest Service is designed to treat all webbing spiders that live above the ground in webs such as black house spiders and redbacks. Our Ground Dwelling Spider service treats all ground dwelling spiders that live in burrows beneath the ground such as funnel webs, wolf spiders, trapdoor spiders and mouse spiders .

Additional Information

Our spider service usually takes between 1-2 hours depending on the size of the home and surrounding ground and garden areas. We require clear access to all internal and external areas of your home including the roof void, subfloor, garage and sheds.

Inside the home, we apply a light pesticide spray along the skirting areas to provide a treated zone for any spiders to cross over.  Please move any items away from the skirting boards at least 10cm to allow our Inspector access to treat these areas effectively. Areas that cannot be treated will be a limitation on the warranty. Any live spiders on cornices inside will be treated with an aerosol non residual product. We will apply a pesticide powder to the roof void, subfloor and weep holes in external walls. All external areas mentioned above will be sprayed thoroughly.

Please secure pets inside or in the garage, as advised by our staff on booking. In the case of external fish ponds and bird aviaries, we request you cover these with a tarpaulin prior to our visit. Pet droppings externally must be picked up and disposed of please as our spray hose will be moving along the ground in your yard.

Please remove any washing from external clothes lines and bring inside any external items that you do not wish to have sprayed.

Please close all external windows and doors.

Please store away all food items in the refrigerator or cupboards in the kitchen.

We will need access to and treat the following areas:

  • Roof void
  • Subfloor
  • Garage
  • External building perimeter
  • Window frames
  •  Entry areas
  •  Downpipes
  •  Under-eave areas
  •  Sheds
  •  Pool areas
  •  Entertaining / BBQ areas
  •  Fences
  •  Washing line
  •  Garbage bins
  •  Children’s play equipment
  •  Retaining walls
  •  Garden areas and garden furniture

If it is raining at the time of the appointment, we will be able to complete all the internal areas of your home. We will need to reschedule another appointment to complete the external areas on a dry day. It is important that the products we use dry after treatment to ensure the treatment remains effective for the warranted period.

If a General Pest Treatment is carried out all webbing spiders living above the ground are included. A Ground Dwelling Spider treatment is a different service and will cover all ground dwelling spiders. If a general pest treatment is carried out it will include cockroaches, silverfish and wasp nests present at the time of service. German cockroaches, nesting ants, bees, rodents, termites, fleas, birds and possums are a separate service and are not included in this service.

Payment is required on the day of service – we accept cash, EFTPOS, Visa and MasterCard, and cheque.

We usually give a six month warranty on a webbing spider service if we can access all the affected areas. Stored items and inaccessible areas will limit the warranty. Unfortunately, we cannot warrant cornice spiders as no residual pesticide can be applied to plaster walls effectively without staining. A Ground Dwelling Spider treatment usually has a 3 month warranty. Please note that whilst we endeavor to treat all ground areas possible, with gardens where there are rocks and logs, we do not lift these and therefore cannot guarantee fully that all ground dwelling spiders will come into contact immediately with the pesticide product. Once they emerge and cross a treated area, they will die.

What to expect after your service?

After a service you will see dead spiders. It is often normal to see spiders coming out for a short period after your service. This is because the pesticide is designed to flush them out of concealed areas before it takes effect. The spider will die shortly after.  If you have any concerns after your service and during the warranty period, please contact our office and we will ask the Inspector that completed your service to contact you with advice.

If you experience an ant problem after your service, this indicates that you could possibly have an underlying nesting ant problem at your property that may need addressing. The General Pest Treatment pesticide, whilst it is wet, will kill general ants wandering around but if there are nests in wall cavities, subfloors, roof voids or other concealed areas, you will need a specific Nesting Ant Treatment. This is an additional service using completely different pesticides and baits depending on the severity, location and species of any present. They take these products back to their nests and eliminate the ant colony. If it is within 2 weeks of your General Pest Treatment, we will complete this service for a reduced price. After 2 weeks the full Nesting Ant Treatment cost will apply. If this happens after your service, please contact our office for advice.
